Nanny State Alert: President Forms New “Lifestyle” Commission.

With a stroke of his pen, President Barack Obama moved America closer to having a full-blown “nanny state” where the people are subservient to, and totally dependent upon the federal government.

On June 10, Obama signed an executive order creating “National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council.”  This council will operate under the umbrella of the Department of Health and Human Services and will be chaired by the Surgeon General.

The purpose of this new commission is reportedly to study the lifestyles of American on several fronts and make recommendations to the President and Congress on ways to improve these lifestyles.  Although this Executive Order claims to create “no enforceable law,” it clearly opens up the way for the federal government to involve itself into even the smallest of lifestyle decisions.

The new commission is to submit a report by July 1, and annually thereafter that “…contains a list of national priorities on health promotion and disease prevention to address lifestyle behavior modification (including smoking cessation, proper nutrition, appropriate exercise, mental health, behavioral health, substance-use disorder, and domestic violence screenings) and the prevention measures for the five leading disease killers in the United States…”

If you would like to read the order for yourself, it is available at WhiteHouse.gov.

Kid Falls Asleep During Obama Speach.

This is priceless.  In the video below, watch the young man over President Obama’s left shoulder.  It appears that he may have had a little too much “hopey changey stuff.”

The video is from the June 7 commencement speach that President Obama gave at Kalamazoo Central High School.

AZ Governor Signs Toughest Immigration Law

On April 23, 2010, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer put her signature on what has been called the toughest anti-illegal immigration law in the nation.  Almost immediately, the outcry started.  Ironically, however, the cries were not from most Arizona citizens because 70% of them support the new law.  Instead, the cries came mainly from out-of-state protesters such as the City of San Francisco and liberal groups throughout the nation.

Even the President of the United States chimed in when he referred to the new law as “misguided” and “irresponsible.”  The irony here is that the State of Arizona was forced to act because of the irresponsible inaction by the Federal Government.  With crime on the increase, along with medical and social costs due to the 460,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona, the governor and state legislature did not have the luxury of waiting any longer.

Since the bill was signed into law, there have been calls for boycotts against the state, including one by Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva.  You know you have a great representative when he hopes for economic harm to come to the business owners (and their employees) he is supposed to be representing.  Grijalva and his fellow congressman, Ed Pastor, are disgraces to the state of Arizona and should be replaced as soon as possible.

A recent AZ Central article mentioned a demonstration by 2500 people who marched downtown to protest the new law.  The interesting thing is that the young lady in the featured photograph is from California.  Apparently, with over 6.5 million people in Arizona (and 460,000 illegal immigrants) they could not gather 2500 protesters without going outside of the state.

To watch the news, you would think that the entire world was against this law or that it was just some right wing effort.  You’d be wrong.  First off, conservatives and republicans do not make up 70% of the Arizona electorate, yet that is the percentage in favor of this law.  Secondly, lawmakers in Texas and a Colorado Gubernatorial candidate are pushing for similar laws in their states.  States as far away as Kentucky are considering similar, if less extreme measures.

Before people blame Arizona for this law, they should come down and visit some of the once-great neighborhoods that have been destroyed by illegal immigration.  Just go through the Phoenix area and ask any long-time resident about Maryvale, then you’ll understand.

Obama Administration To Appeal Ruling Against Day Of Prayer

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to read that the Obama Administration was going to appeal U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb’s ruling that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.  The case now goes to the 7th. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.

The National Day of Prayer was first instituted 58 years ago.  Since nothing in the constitution, regarding prayer, has been added or changed in that time, I’m curious to see how it suddenly became unconstitutional.  I have a feeling that it was a case of a judge trying to get her name in the paper.

At any rate, you can read more about this here

Thank you, Mr. President, for standing up for what is right in this case.

Poll Shows Obama Tied With Bush

In a recent poll conducted by Public Policy Polling, Barack Obama was tied with George W. Bush on the question who would you vote for if a presidential election were held today.  Given Bush’s less than spectacular approval ratings when he left office, and the tireless promotional efforts that the mainstream media have gifted to Obama, this is an absolutely amazing result.  The final tally was Obama 48% and Bush 46% with a 3.4% margin of error.

Now, let’s be clear, Bush made mistakes in office and he spent money like it was going out of style, but Obama has continued to spend money recklessly and has even turned up the faucet.  It appears that, even after all the talk of “hope and change,” Americans are starting to wish that we could “change it back.”

Here’s more information on the poll.

$3.9B In New Taxes For Middle Class Under ObamaCare.

Do you remember when (then) Senator Barack Obama promised, over and over, that Americans earning less than $250,000.00 would not see their taxes go up?  Do you remember that?  I sure do.  Goodness knows that he said it often enough.  Imagine my shock and surprise (note the sarcasm) when I read article explaining that the middle class will get socked for and extra $3.9 BILLION in new taxes under BO’s unconstitutional power grab.

I thought that BO was only going to soak those evil rich guys.  You know, the ones who already pay most of the taxes while 47% of the population get their government services for free.

Here’s the article if you’d like to see it for yourself.

Washington Post: Obama’s Disregard For Media Reaches New Heights…

The Washington Post has an article detailing how President Obama is going to great lengths to avoid the media during the Nuclear Summit now going on in Washington.  The article, which can be found here, goes on to detail the disbelief that some long-term Washington journalists are feeling over the way the President is ignoring the media.

Am I the only one to see the huge irony in this?  During the campaign, Obama was the media darling.  They would make up stories to make McCain/Palin look bad (such as Palin not being the “real” mother of her youngest son) while totally ignoring potentially damaging stories about Obama (such as “Rev.” Wright, Acorn, terrorist ties, etc.).

Also, during the campaign, Obama swore again and again that his administration would be “transparent” and open.

It is possible that, as Americans become more aware of just how unprepared Obama was for the White House and how unprepared he still is, that his love affair with the media may have cooled somewhat?  Could be.  It sure seems so.

Employee Laid Off For Supporting Obama?

CBS News is running a story about a post on the Texas A&M student and alumni message board where someone posted that they had laid off their first Obama supporting employee as a cost-cutting measure in the wake of ObamaCare. You can find the story here.

This does bring up an interesting point.  Should business be able to lay off someone strictly based on their political affiliation?  In my opinion, absolutely!  Look at it this way, if you run a business and the government enacts a law which will have a negative impact on your bottom line, forcing layoffs, who should be the one to go?  Why shouldn’t it be the person who supported the very government who caused the problem in the first place?  I believe that is a totally reasonable thing to do.

People need to learn that politics is not like a football game.  It’s not about “my team” beating “your team.”  These are real issues and actions have consequences.

Is this story true?  I have no idea.  Do I think we will see business owners taking their frustrations out on Obama supporters?  Absolutely and rightfully so.
