On June 18, Senator Jon Kyl spoke to a North Tempe (Arizona) Town Hall meeting. When asked why the Obama Administration is not acting to secure the border, Senator Kyl related a private conversation that he recently had with the President. Kyl contends that President Obama told him that he would not secure the border until the Congress passes “comprehensive immigration reform” (a.k.a. amnesty) because doing so would remove any incentive that the republicans might have to support such reform.
Here’s the video of Kyl’s appearance:
The White House has refuted Kyl’s claim and states that such a conversation didn’t take place. Given Mr. Kyl’s record as a “straight shooter” and the Administration’s call for “comprehensive immigration reform,” it leads one to believe that Mr. Kyl’s version may well be closer to the truth.

Recently, while visiting Ecuador, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remarked that the Obama Administration would be filing suit against the state of Arizona over SB1070 -- the recently signed anti-illegal immigration bill set to take effect July 29. No official word from the administration as of yet, but it does appear that the Obama administration will continue its assault on the 10th amendment by filing such a suit. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has stated that she and Arizona will vigorously defend this new law. Arizona Attorney General ( and candidate for governor) Terry Goddard has declined to defend the state in these suits so Governor Brewer has retained outside counsel for the job.
Despite their resistance to curbing illegal immigration, the Obama Administration may face a huge negative backlash as many nationwide polls show the Arizona law to be very popular all across the US. In fact, similar laws are being considered and debated throughout the nation. Just today, the easter Nebraska town of Freemont passed an ordinance making it illegal to hire illegal immigrants or rent housing to them. As you might expect the ACLU has promised to file suit to block this bill. Here’s more on this story.
Isn’t it about time the President stopped playing politics with national security?
