Obama Administration Sues Arizona Over Immigration Law
In a move that shocked absolutely no one, the Obama Administration filed a lawsuit in Federal Court to block the implementation of Arizona’s new anti-illegal immigration law formerly known as SB1070.
The suit alleges that Arizona’s new law infringes upon duties of the federal government and violates the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause. According to many legal experts, this claim should not stand because the Arizona law does not classify something as illegal, that is not already so classified under existing federal law. Even before his law was passed, Arizona law enforcement agencies had the right to enforce federal immigration law under the precept known as concurrent jurisdiction. The new Arizona law simply makes it mandatory for all law enforcement agencies in the state to do so.
The suit fails to take into account the rights that all states, Arizona included, have under the tenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This appears to be yet another attack on the tenth amendment by an administration which seems to have made such attacks a way of life.
On June 18, Senator Jon Kyl spoke to a North Tempe (Arizona) Town Hall meeting. When asked why the Obama Administration is not acting to secure the border, Senator Kyl related a private conversation that he recently had with the President. Kyl contends that President Obama told him that he would not secure the border until the Congress passes “comprehensive immigration reform” (a.k.a. amnesty) because doing so would remove any incentive that the republicans might have to support such reform.
Here’s the video of Kyl’s appearance:
The White House has refuted Kyl’s claim and states that such a conversation didn’t take place. Given Mr. Kyl’s record as a “straight shooter” and the Administration’s call for “comprehensive immigration reform,” it leads one to believe that Mr. Kyl’s version may well be closer to the truth.

Recently, while visiting Ecuador, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remarked that the Obama Administration would be filing suit against the state of Arizona over SB1070 -- the recently signed anti-illegal immigration bill set to take effect July 29. No official word from the administration as of yet, but it does appear that the Obama administration will continue its assault on the 10th amendment by filing such a suit. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has stated that she and Arizona will vigorously defend this new law. Arizona Attorney General ( and candidate for governor) Terry Goddard has declined to defend the state in these suits so Governor Brewer has retained outside counsel for the job.
Despite their resistance to curbing illegal immigration, the Obama Administration may face a huge negative backlash as many nationwide polls show the Arizona law to be very popular all across the US. In fact, similar laws are being considered and debated throughout the nation. Just today, the easter Nebraska town of Freemont passed an ordinance making it illegal to hire illegal immigrants or rent housing to them. As you might expect the ACLU has promised to file suit to block this bill. Here’s more on this story.
Isn’t it about time the President stopped playing politics with national security?
Obama: Do As I Say, Not As I Do.
I’m sure that every child has heard the age-old parental phrase, “Do as I say, not as I do.” That might be good advice from a smoking parent who wants to protect his child from the dangers of nicotine, but it’s a little bit hypocritical when it comes from a president who is speaking on “personal responsibility” when he accepts no responsibility himself.
On June 7, President Obama delivered a speech to the graduating class of Kalamazoo Central High School. In his speech, he told the graduating seniors, “Don’t make excuses. Take responsibility for your successes and failures.” This sounds good, but it tends to lose some value when you stop to consider that President Obama doesn’t practice what he preaches. So far, President Obama has continually failed to take responsibility for his short-comings. Instead, his administration has the motto that each of their failures is “Bush’s fault.”
Mr. President, it’s good advice to tell young people to accept personal responsibility. Now, sir, don’t you think it’s about time you took your own advice?
Program Aims To Find Husbands For Single, Unemployed Dutch Women.
Talk about social programs running amok. It seems that unemployed Dutch women are being offered $1695 to get a fashion and beauty makeover, all in the hopes of getting them a husband and getting them off of government-run unemployment programs.
The scheme, the brainchild of three municipalities, also has the ladies professionally photographed and their photos featured on a dating site.

Normally, I would love to make a smart comment about a story like this, but this one is strange enough that it renders me speechless.
New Germ Slams Arizona
Here’s a story that just might make you sick (pun intended). AZCentral is reporting that a new, highly-toxic and drug-resistant “super germ” is making the rounds in Arizona hospitals.
The “bug” is a new strain of a germ called Clostridium difficile. According to the article, the elderly and ill are most likely to have a serious problem with this killer bug.
Nebraska and Oklahoma Pass Tough New Abortion Laws
It’s been 37 years since the Supreme Court overreached their constitutional authority and rendered the decision known as “Roe V. Wade.” In those 37 years, millions of unborn babies have been killed in “clinics” throughout the country with little or no legislation to impede the process. Recently, however, tough new laws have been enacted in Nebraska and Oklahoma that may signal a shift in the tide.
In Nebraska, a new law prohibits abortions after 20 weeks on the basis that the unborn baby feels pain at that point and to allow the procedure would be cruel. The Supreme Court has previously used this rationale in barring late-term abortions, citing the following quote from an observer of the procedure:
“The baby’s little fingers were clasping and unclasping, and his little feet were kicking. Then the doctor stuck the scissors in the back of his head, and the baby’s arms jerked out, like a startle reaction, like a flinch, like a baby does when he thinks he is going to fall . . . The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening, and sucked the baby’s brains out. Now the baby went completely limp . . .”
Oklahoma recently passed five abortion laws, including two which were passed over vetoes by Governor Brad Henry (D). The new laws would require, among other things, that women get an ultrasound and hear a detailed description of the baby prior to getting an abortion. The new laws would also bar women from filing suit against doctors who fail to give information regarding possible disabilities. Another new law passed in Oklahoma makes it illegal to perform an abortion on the basis of the baby’s gender.
